Capes

When these were starting to hit some department stores last autumn, I was a little 'iffy about them. The name alone gives off images of super heroes doing elaborate stunts off some skyscrapper. However, as with many fashion trends, I have learned to actually like capes. The silouette alone is enough reason to break out of the usual peacoats that people wear in the fall. Vogue did a segment in The Social Shopper talking about unpredictable fall weather, and featured a number of cute (but expensive) ones. I found a few more affordable ones that stand out just as much over at the Macy's website.

This BCX jacket is inexpensive and comes in a black and gray leopard print that's great for fall.

I love this Anne Klein cape. The tweed texture would be a good contrast to nearly any ensemble. I also like that its belted to give an hourglass shape to the cape.

This cape is also a great cape I found over on the Nordstrom website. The half-bow collar put the finishing touch to this smooth cape.

Hats Off (...or On!)

Now that it's getting chiller outside, its time to shift from the nice warm fall weather and get prepared for the cold to come. The best way to do this is to accessorize with a great hat. From berets to trappers to beanies, hats are everywhere in stores at this time of the year. If you live in a colder area, the trick is to find one that's both fashionable and functional.

I'm loving chunky knit beanies, especially this one I found on the Forever 21 website. It's pretty in pink and would look paired with a low side knotted braid.

If you're looking for something more fun and quirky, check out this awesome ice cream cone hat from Zumiez. It comes in both strawberry and vanilla (yum!) and looks adorable. Whenever I wear mine, I know that I'll be turning heads!

Turban hats are also turning up in stores. I love this knitted one on ASOS. The neutral color can be paired with a bright cape from Macy's for a fun look.

Don't want something warm and toasty but still want to dress for fall? Try a printed headband like this leopard print one found from River Island. It's cute print bow is a great way to finish off some black skinnys and a chunky knit sweater.

Braids & Bows

Braids were a huge hit this past summer, and definitely will be seen this fall in even more elaborate and creative patterns. I found this braid crown on Teen Vogue. I've seen other variations of this, but I like this one because of how the two braids come from either side of the head, and then are pinned in the middle. Here's a pic and link to the Teen Vogue website:

I also am loving bows, and even though they seem like a spring sort of style, I love this scarf bow idea that Anne Le posted on youtube. This will definitely look cute once the cold weather rolls in!
