Just as previously predicted, the 90s are finally the new 80s. Cool vintage pieces have just scored another decade. What I especially like from the era is the resurgence of grunge and rocker chic.
I've experimented with both on Polyvore, and have seen how to balance out edgy with pretty. Just because it's grunge doesn't mean it has to be about all holey jeans. Kristen Stewart's style in the May 2012 issue of Jalouse magazine shows how to still look girly and wearing the trend. Although the sets are mainly black and white, both Demi Lovato and Kristen are shown wearing pops of color, like teal, deep violet, and peach. Heavy black liner, disarrayed hair, and neutral lips are the constants to the look. Stripes, polka dots, and icon tees are sure to become more popular as the summer comes.

A New Silhouette: The Oversized Shirt
The Vogue website had a great segment about oversized shirts from the runway being hot for the summer. It's interesting how only a few years ago, tops were made to have a woman's body shone off. Nowadays, it's more alluring to wear long and loose blouses. Although I did not initially like the "boyfriend" fitted jeans and blazers that became popular just a few seasons ago, I can see where this influence has created surprisingly polished ensembles from top designers, like Givenchy, featured in the set.

Beyond the Sea: The Sperry Topsider
It's hard to go somewhere this season and not see someone wearing boat shoes, especially Sperrys. The top siders have been around for decades, but just in the past couple of years have become an indulgence for people who don't even come close to stepping onto a ship. With their increase in popularity, the shoes have also increased in variety. The colors, shape, and materials of the shoes make each unique for the buyer. Every girl can now have her signature Sperry shoes in the newest metallic and hue before the rest of her counterparts catch up. As a result, they've adorned the feet of the Ugg generation of girls and young women. They can finally put the boots away in their closets as opposed to wearing them nine months out of the year and instead slide into a new pair of Sperrys.

I Dream of Denim
I remember going through my mother's closet when I was a little and
seeing all of the denim jackets and dresses hanging up at the front.
While visiting just last weekend, I saw a denim dress hanging in the
back. Just a few months ago, I would have taken one look at the dress and thought it was outdated, but not old enough to be retro. But now, denim jackets and chambray tops are in for the spring. I wonder what other '90s looks will be coming made cool again. I really hope the high waisted, tapered jeans look doesn't come back. That will mean mom jeans are hip. Seemingly impossible, I know. But crazier things have happened.

Kristen Stewart: Feeling Blue
Opi nail
bodycare.becomegorgeous.com
I absolutely loved Kristen's look at the 2012 KCAs this year. Though it was more formal than a majority of the rest of the orange carpet, she stood out for all of the right reasons. The Stella McCarthy dress fit her beautifully, and I liked that her heels were not the exact same shade as the dress; the periwinkle hue looked soft against the royal blue. I wish there were better quality close up shots just so I can see what shades of shadow her eyes have. Whatever it is, it pops out her unique hazel eyes even more. The imperfect sleeked back pony was a great decision just to prevent the look from getting too dressy. Two thumbs up, Kristen!

My Happy Place: The Louis Vuitton Speedy
My Happy Place: The Louis Vuitton Speedy by elle-kelly
The initials LV are the most recognizable among designer emblems. Whether in a Kanye West song or the newest Twilight movie, people of all walks of life know the design. Louis Vuitton has become a household name because of its iconic logo and leather goods, especially travel bags. Having it go along with you on a flight can act as a comfort. No matter where your journey may take you -whether it be an hour long flight to see your family or an eight hour one to Europe -that bag acts as your home, with all of your essentials that you associate with it. It carries not only your passport and airline ticket, but also the unique currency of the country your about to venture to and the list of places you want to see while there. The Louis Vuitton Speedy is a familiarity that reminds you that home is not a single place, but wherever you want it to be.
